I was born in El Aaiún in the refugee camps in 1981. As a child I could not understand where I lived so I loved it as a child. As I grew up I began to understand that this was not our land and that Morocco had invaded our land and so I began to hate them but I could not suddenly hate the place I grew up in. I had many questions and my family answered them. Since the end of the eighties I became aware of the situation and I became aware of what I have to do. I do love this place, there are many reasons, like family, friends, but still I share the love with the occupied territory. I know my real country is there but I contented myself with a quest here and I am grateful to Algeria, but my real country is there.
For any Saharawi with two names the same like me it means your father died before you were born. My father was killed five months before I was born in a battle called Lwargziz. My mother says It was a great battle where we captured three hundred Morroccans and brought down two planes. I am very proud that my father died fighting in a great battle defending his family and his land. I am not like anybody whose father just died [normally].
After eighteen years of ceasefire and peace process if the UN cannot succeed in solving this problem peacefully then the best solution is to return to war. As a simple man I would say that our politicians have plans to work towards. Even within the Polisario there are some mistakes but they are our rightful representatives. I am ready. If someone came to your house to rob you or to kill you would you just stand and look at him? |
